Today, we’re excited to share the story of Willis, a small but mighty husky who captured our hearts and inspired us to continue our mission of making this world a better and safer place for dogs everywhere.
The Day Willis & Bruce Found Us
One day in late December, we noticed two unfamiliar figures wandering into our driveway. It was, who we would end up naming, Willis, a small husky with striking blue eyes, and his large but gentle companion, Bruce, a 76-pound German Shepherd. Despite their size difference, the bond between them was clear. With a few treats and some soft words, it only took a few minutes to gain their trust, and from that moment on, we knew we had to help them.
Our Efforts to Find Their Home
We immediately set to work, determined to reunite these two with their family. We knocked on neighbors' doors, drove around the neighborhood, and put up posters everywhere we could. We posted on social media, lost and found dog sites, and contacted every shelter/rescue organization we could find in Texas and beyond. But despite all our efforts, no one came forward to claim them and every organization we reached out to was at capacity.
For five long months, Willis and Bruce remained with us, becoming a part of our daily lives as we continued to search for help. It was a challenging time, but we were committed to ensuring they found a safe and loving home.
A New Beginning with Three Little Pitties Rescue
Finally, with the help of the wonderful team at Three Little Pitties Rescue and a new friend who shared our passion for dogs, we were able to take the next steps for Willis. He was vaccinated, neutered, and prepared for adoption. It was a bittersweet moment, knowing we would soon be saying goodbye, but also feeling relieved that his journey to a forever home was nearing its end.
With the help of Three Little Pitties Rescue, we were connected with a family interested in adopting Willis almost immediately. From the moment we met them, virtually, we knew they were the perfect match. Their love for dogs and their understanding of Willis’ needs made it clear that they would provide the caring home he deserved. Within a few weeks of that interview, we found ourselves loading Willis onto a transport bus, his tail wagging in anticipation of his new life. His destination? Western Massachusetts, where he would not only be loved and cared for but would also get to experience something new and exciting—running around in the snow for the very first time.
Bruce Stays with Us
As for Bruce, it seems that he has found his forever home right here with us. His gentle nature and loyalty have made him a beloved member of our family, and we couldn’t imagine our lives without him.
Our Commitment to Dogs in Need
Though we’re not a rescue organization, our experience with Willis and Bruce has deepened our commitment to advocating for dogs in need. We’ve always been passionate about dogs, which is why we create our products using limited materials, non-toxic ingredients and with sustainability at the forefront. Throughout this journey, we’ve realized the importance of being a voice for animals who don’t have one, and we’ll continue to support incredible rescue organizations—after all, that’s how we got Root!
